Gov Josh Shapiro Labeled Kamala Harris’ Best Shot At The Presidency: Report

On Saturday, Time Magazine spoke on Vice President Kamala Harris’ rumored running mate in the 2024 presidential election, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, arguing that he would be the “wisest choice” for the Democratic candidate.

“This weekend Vice President Kamala Harris is said to be interviewing the final candidates for her own vice presidential running mate,” the outlet reported. “If Harris wants to sustain the momentum of her campaign and give herself the best chance to win in November, we believe that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro would make for the wisest choice.”

The outlet reported that Shapiro “has a track record of pragmatic policymaking,” which they argued gives him appeal among both Republicans and Democrats, citing the Post Gazette’s report regarding former Republican officials supporting the Pennsylvania governor.

Shapiro was also stated to have nearly 30 years of political experience, despite only winning the governor’s mansion in 2022. Time reported that Shapiro served six years as state attorney general and eight years as a Pennsylvania state representative, temporarily serving as deputy speaker of the House. Shapiro also spent time as the chief of staff of Former U.S. Rep. Joseph Hoeffel (D-PA), per Reporter Online.

Time detailed that Shapiro could very well help Harris win Pennsylvania, as detailed by a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, which revealed that “57% of Pennsylvanians strongly or somewhat approved of Shapiro’s leadership – 35% of which were voters planning to back Trump in November.”

While multiple polls do indicate that Shapiro could boost Harris’ campaign, his history of pro-Israel statements could divide the Democratic party’s far left wing, and lead to infighting.

Time noted that several far-left groups have worked to undermine Shapiro’s candidacy for the VP role. Shapiro, who is Jewish, was labeled “Genocide Josh,” however, many Democrats seem unfazed by the insults, with Rep Ritchie Torres (D-NY) noting that he was still largely in line with the Biden Administration and “well within the mainstream of the Democratic party.”

The Time report comes just days after Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker (D) released a video which appeared to indicate that Harris had already decided on Shapiro for the vice presidential role.

Sources close to Parker claimed that the video wasn’t an announcement and that the mayor was simply throwing her weight behind Shapiro.

“This is not an announcement of anything. This is just the mayor showing her support for a longtime friend who we know is one of the people being considered,” the source said.

However, one source close the Harris’ campaign said that the video was “odd,” and that Parker was “trying” to pitch Shapiro as Harris’ running mate.

Time noted that there are still a number of candidates in the running for the role, including “the Democratic governors of Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Kentucky along with Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.”

Harris must make a decision on her running mate by Aug. 7, in order to meet Ohio’s ballot-access deadline. It is expected that she will make that final decision by Tuesday.
