Former President Jimmy Carter, 99, who is in hospice care, has revealed what his final wish is before he passes away.
The former Democratic president said he wants to make it to Election Day and vote for Vice President Kamala Harris as his last wish.
“I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” Carter’s grandson, Jason, said the former president told his son, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Carter, who was a peanut farmer in Georgia before becoming president in 1977, was admitted into hospice care in February 2023 and is not expected to live much longer, according to the New York Post.
Since then, Carter’s grandson said his grandpa recently told him that one of his biggest wishes is to see Harris defeat former President Donald Trump in November. The former president said this is more important to him than turning 100 years old.
Jason said that his father is “more alert and interested in politics and the war in Gaza.”
Jason’s comments come three months after he updated the public on his grandfather’s health.
“He really is, I think, coming to the end that, as I’ve said before, there’s a part of this faith journey that is so important to him, and there’s a part of that faith journey that you only can live at the very end, and I think he has been there in that space,” Jason said in May at a forum honoring Carter’s late wife, Rosalynn Carter.
The New York Post pointed out that Carter would be able to vote two weeks after his 100th birthday when early voting begins in Georgia on Oct. 15.
As his 100th birthday nears, a fundraiser has been scheduled to raise money for the former president’s nonprofit that advocates for human rights and democracy, called the Carter Center.
Notably, Jason endorsed Harris as the top Democrat to defeat Trump.
“Vice President Harris has the benefit of being part of this ticket and having been a part of this ticket for the last several months and years. She’s run before nationally; she’s been part of the team that beat Trump last time, and she knows how this works,” Jason said in July.
Harris recently secured the Democratic nomination for president after a virtual roll call vote was conducted.
The vice president has garnered the endorsements of several high-profile Democrats, such as Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and former President Barack Obama.
Harris’ entrance into the race comes after President Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed her following party concerns that he did not possess the mental capabilities to serve another term or defeat Trump.
The Carter family will soon hold a concert celebrating the former president’s life and 100th birthday, called, “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song.”
“Whether it was on his record player, on the campaign trail, or on the White House lawn, music has been — and continues to be — a source of joy, comfort, and inspiration for my grandfather,” Jason said in a statement. “I can think of no better way to celebrate him and his 100th birthday than a night of music.”
